SPiN is a unique ping pong bar and lounge located right around the corner from The Bond Condos at 461 King St. W. It had its soft open in September 2011 and its official opening party just this month. SPiN’s creators, Franck Raharinosy, Andrew Gordon and Jonathan Bricklin have been working with co-ownersRyan Fisher and Susan Sarandon. Yes, you read correctly; that’s the Academy Award-winning Susan Sarandon.

The philosophy behind SPiN is “to create a global community of people, socializing, exercising and fantasizing together.” It’s a great spot for parties, corporate events, or friendly get-togethers.

The 12,000 square foot space features 12 ping pong tables, a lounge, and a private party room. It was recently voted Toronto Life’s Top Spot for Drunken Table Tennis and, accordingly, one of Toronto’s best bars.

You can enjoy Ontario brews as well as a variety of cocktails like the Stamos ($14) with Bacardi Gold, Amaro Montenegro, house-made tobacco tincture and maraschino.

The snacks you can purchase include: devilled eggs ($5), a mixed taco plate ($24), and desserts such assundaes ($7).

Memberships are available for ping pong. Annual memberships for individuals ($500) or for families ($750) and monthly memberships for $50 or $75 will get you:

  • First ping-pong court rental (hour) of every month is free.
  • All subsequent ping-pong court rentals are 50% off.
  • Exclusive ability to reserve a table up to 5 days in advance.
  • Priority access to special, SPiN Toronto events.
  • One free SPiN Toronto t-shirt.
  • The first 200 Members to sign up will receive Founding Member rates.
  • Ability to jump to front of wait list, should there be one.

Non-members can play for between $20-28 per hour.

The official opening party on February 22nd brought out some big names in table tennis, including Wally Green, Kazuyuki Yokiyama, and Soo Yeon Lee and even a special appearance from the Breakfast Club’s Judd Nelson.

SPiN is part of a growing trend of ping pong lounges, with others in New York and Milwaukee.

SPiN is just one of many hot spots around the Bond.
